Review: This was my first container gardening book and still one of my favorites. In terms of getting started, this is an excellent choice. The bright photographs made me jealous of those with lots of space, but it gave enough information to encourage me in getting the most out of my small balconey. It covers many potential pitfalls, including weight restrictions for rooftops and balconeys and individual container benefits and detriments. I appreciated ideas like lining the bottom of containers with styrofoam to reduce weight. But the major factor in my buying this book was the strawberry project. While the watering technique hasn't panned out as well as I'd hoped, it did encourage me to take the risk of doing strawberries in containers, and I have not regretted that decision. The project section should have good information in getting anyone started, and each section's photos are described well enough that someone could easily give what they see a try.
This book contains several bonus. The first is that several chapters contain boxes with plants good for certain tasks, including shade gardens, insect attracters, and fragrence. It also has some fun ideas on unconventional gardening materials, like drain-pipe containers.
The only compaint I would name is that this book doesn't talk a whole lot about plants for different zones, but you should be able to discuss that with someone at a local nursery. And as a beggining book, climate could be considered out of it's scope.
